Goa is India’s prime destination for water
sports activities such as kayaking. The white sand beaches and backwaters of
Goa offer excursions along the coast with daily kayaking trips offered by
organizers even during the rainy season. Goa
Kayaking operates out of Vasco da Gama, and Chicalim, and is conducted in
scenic rivers of Goa that are thrilling as well as highly safe. The rivers
include the Zuari, the Nerul River, the Sal backwaters and the Mondovi.
For beginners, however, the task may seem a
little daunting for some especially beginners who may have difficulty getting
into the kayak in the first place. The task may be embarrassing in a public
scenario but following some easy steps can help getting safely into the kayak a
cakewalk.
§ Enter the kayak from
areas that are shallow and without rocks
§ While paddling a
whitewater kayak, it is advisable to get into the kayak at the shoreline and
slowly paddle or push into the water
§ While getting into the
kayak from a deck, make sure to have a firm hold on the deck using your hands
and slowly get in the kayak and turn around and slowly remove your hands as you
sit. Keep your paddle perpendicular in the kayak.
Goa offers natural ecosystems which are
preserved safely including mangroves, mudflats and mini bays and are very
strict about activities that destroy the ecosystem in anyway. An important
destination for kayak India, all
equipments including a high standard kayak, paddles, boats, life jackets etc.
are provided by the organizers. And kayakers are advised to wear short sleeved,
comfortable clothes with easy flip flops, ample sunscreen, sunglasses and
towels. Want to save the experience in images? Bring a camera along.
